What is the toughest accountant problem you’ve tackled? How did you handle it? How did you overcome the challenge?
The toughest accounting challenge I’ve handled would be telling a client that personal expenditures should be kept separate from their business’ books. The common explanation is that it will get in the way of reporting accurate financials when preparing the business tax returns. Moreover, they run the risk of getting audited when reporting higher business deductions than expected. I’ve overcome this challenge by being honest about the general repercussions of reporting inaccuracies, and gaining the client’s general understanding of these facts.
How do you define success?
Success is not always when you’ve fully accomplished your set goals, but when you understand that the trials and tribulations you’ve endured in this journey have shaped you to better comprehend your limits, and how to effectively push them. Success is to understand yourself - to grow strengths from your weaknesses, and how to effectively utilize them to be both a well-rounded individual and an influential leader in society.
